18.03lbs! I had always hoped that my R1000 would weigh less than 20lbs. I was pretty sure from feeling the weight of other bikes that she would. This was confirmed when I picked her up from the shop the other day from a full overhaul. There are only two other things I could do to make the bike lighter:

  1. Wheelset
  2. Fork with carbon steerer

The wheelset would be nice but it is totally unessecary. I will be getting a new wheelset probably next spring and make my current set a backup. The new one will be Mavic and in black. I haven’t decided if I will be buying the ‘09 Elites or maybe a higher wheel in the Mavic line up. As for the fork, I am not totally convinced it is needed. Yes, the carbon steerer would soak up some more of the harse ride the aluminum dishes out, but is it worth the $300 for a little weight loss and damping? Not of as yet.

Almost forgot to mention it is a full Ultegra 6600 setup now! The new crank looks great. I can’t wait for a warm day (something over 35*) to take it out.
