Framebuilders

If you are like me most bikes don’t fit right. I constantly have bike shops tell me “you are a 54 or 56,” based on my height. I could never ride a 56 and most 54′s have toptubes that are too long for me. If this seems to be your case, check out getting a custom frame made based on your body geometry. If you are going to spend a couple of g’s on a bike, shouldn’t it be a perfect fit? You will be happy and surprised to see that most frame builders have competitive prizes.

STRIDA

This little folder has been around for ages and still kicking. I have never seen one in person, but found it on http://amsterdamize.com. After doing some research it seems like a nice folder if you are looking for something that is light and easy to carry on and off a bus or train. Personally I would still go with Bike Friday or Dahon, but nothing compares to Strida’s size! Oh and it’s a belt drive…

The Dick Lane Velodrome

When I posted about US Velodromes I was contacted by Jeff. Here is some information about the volunteered based velodrome.
“The East Point Velodrome Association, Inc. (EPVA), is a 100% volunteer-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation, care and growth of the Dick Lane Velodrome, located in East Point, Georgia.
The EPVA conducts Youth Service Activities for the children at no cost to the city or state. These activities include our highly acclaimed Bicycle Little League (for kids 8-12), Summer Camps (kids 13-16), and Bicycle Safety Clinics. In addition, to raising bicycle safety awareness, these programs promote physical health and wellness, teamwork and individual growth through the sport and positive alternatives to drugs and gangs. These pioneering grass-root programs will hopefully ignite positive changes in kids and in competitive cycling in the U.S.
Constructed in 1974, the Dick Lane Velodrome was inspired by a group of residents and City officials that visited the Munich Olympics. Located eight miles south of downtown Atlanta, the Dick Lane Velodrome is a 1/5 of a mile and 36° banked concrete track for bicycle racing, set in Sumner park in a residential part of beautiful historic East Point. Dick Lane is the only velodrome in the world with a green space that contains a large oak tree and a creek running through the in-field. The City of East Point owns the velodrome and has a long-term partnership with the EPVA to manage the Dick Lane Velodrome, and continue its use as one of the premier facilities of its kind.”

Well everyone I tried to take a test ride but no luck. My local Trek dealer still doesn’t have the District. I was hoping to have a review for everyone. All I can say I will keep trying to get a taste of the new beast and report back…..

Minnesota is lucky enough to have one of the very best bicycle tracks (velodromes) in the world. This track routinely attracts the best track riders from the US and Canada, sometimes even Europe. It’s 250 meters long, with corners banked at 43 degrees. The NSC track is a copy of the one used for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Alpenrose Velodrome
Portland, Oregon
Alpenrose Velodrome is one most exciting tracks in the United States. At 268.43 meters around with a 16.6 meter radius and a 43 degree bank, Alpenrose is also one of the steepest velodromes in the country. The steep banks make races on the velodrome interesting to watch and just plain fun to ride. Alpenrose is still home for the only North American Six-day race.
Lehigh Valley Velodrome
Trexlertown, Pennsylvania
After careful consultation with nationwide cycling organizations, Bob Rodale began building the Velodrome in 1974 on a piece of land he and his wife Ardath owned in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania. As construction continued and the dream grew, Rodale sought community involvement to optimize local interest in bicycle racing. He achieved this by donating the land and the partially completed facility to Lehigh County in return for the pledge that the county would continue its development. For a 20 year period the facility would be known as the Lehigh County Velodrome.
Brian Piccolo Park Velodrome
Fort Lauterdale, Florida
The first race held at the Velodrome was on April 17, 1993. The Velodrome has a 333.3-meter concrete track with a maximum banking of 28 degrees. Being located in sunny South Florida where the weather averages 70 degrees from November to February and 80+ degrees the remainder of the year, this bicycle/skating facility attracts more than 3,500 athletes every year.
Marymoor Velodrome
Redmond, Washington
The Group Health Velodrome officially opened for racing as the Marymoor Velodrome in the spring of 1975. Built with funds generated from the Forward Thrust park bonds, the bill for the first stage of construction came in at a bargain-basement price of $176,000. The original track lacked a railing, lights, judges stand, or even a paved parking lot. The railing was installed in 1976, followed by the landscaped parking lot the next year. The Velodrome’s lighting system came next, in 1979. Finally in 1990, the infield warm-up circle was added.
San Diego Velodrome
San Diego, California

New/Old Raleigh
Posted by phillikw under Personal Bikes, Road Biking, Singlespeed | Fixed Gear | Tags: Craigslist, Raleigh, Raleigh Bicycle |Leave a Comment
Found this sweet Raleigh on craigslist for $100. It turned out to be pretty small for me, so I will be making it a house bike for the lady. This way she doesn’t have to take her bike back and forth. I need the matching silver chain guard. If you anyone has one let me know, I would love to buy it off of you!
As for features on the bike, it has a coaster brake and front brake. To honest that is really all i know. It has been sitting in my living room since I picked it up.
